Tikal under the stars

I was long thinking about a proper topic for the 50th article of this blog and now I found something totally worth it. We all know, that the Maya were well experienced astronomers, just think about the Venus tables and Lunar series in the Dresden Codex or the snake shadow at the pyramid of Kukulkan at Chichen Itza (remember?) as beautiful examples. Linking beautiful pictures of Mayan sites to beautiful pictures of stars therefore wouldn’t only have an aesthetic meaning, but also a deeper dimension.

This is exactly what Stéphane Guisard did in Tikal on http://www.astrosurf.com/sguisard/Pagim/Tikal1.html. Here is one astonishing example of his 7-picture set Los Cielos de los Mayas.

Be sure – and you should understand this as a clear order – to watch all pictures of the set here and so many other marvelous pictures of Stéphane here.
